Introduction - Maharani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi is a great heroine of Indian history. She has no match in her sacrifice for the motherland.
Her early life - She was born on November 1, 1835 at Kashi (Banaras). The name of her father was Moropant Tambe. Her mother Bhagirathi Bai died when she was only a child. She was called 'Manu' in her childhood. She got her early education with Baji Rao's son Nana Sahib. She was fond of horse-riding. She was very courageous from her childhood. She was married to Raja Gangadhar Rao when she was only fifteen. She and her husband adopted Damodar Rao as their son.
Her bravery - She was very brave. She took great interest in military training. The English rulers were very cruel to her. They tried their best to enslave Jhansi. Lakshmi Bai fought bravely against the English forces. She encouraged other Indian rulers against the cruelty of the English rulers. She captured theGwalior Fort. She looked like Durga, the goddess of war. She was finished by a British soldier. She was only twenty-three then.
