Introduction:- By the word coolie we mean a labourer. One who carries our luggage at a railway station is called a coolie.A collie is a very poor man.
His dress:- We can recongnise a coolie by his dress. He is seen in red or navy-blue dress. He wears a loose shirt, trousers, a turban or a cap. He ties his licence number round his arm and puts a badge on his pocket.
His work:- A railway coolie has to do hard-work from morning till night. As soon as the train arrives at the station, he carries the luggage into the compartment. He also help the passengers to get in and get down the train. His rates are fixed by the railway department but sometimes he charges for his services according to the occasion and time. A coolie knows the exact time and the platform number at which the trains arrive or depart.
His living:- The life of a railway coolie is very hard and simple. His income is very low. A coolie takes very simple food, i.e., rice, chapati, and pulse. He is always hand to much. He lives in a small house, generally in a hut or in a small rented room.
Suggestions about him:- A railway coolie earns very little, which is not sufficient for his food. His condition should be improved. He deserves our sympathy.
