Introduction (name and when it is celebrated):-

Diwali is the most prominent of Indian festivals. It is the festival of light. It is the most important and favorite festival of everyone. It falls every year 20 days after the festival of Dussehra in the month of October or November.

Legends behind It (why it is celebrated):-

On this day Hindus celebrate the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after the victory over Ravana. Lord Rama returned to the Kingdom after the 14 years of exile. Diwali is known as the festival of lights which is the symbol of coming of Lakshmi to the home.

Preparations for the Festival:-

People wait very eagerly for this special festival. At this day market is full of big rush specially the sweet shops. Kids get new clothes, fire crackers, sweets, gifts, candles and toys from the market. People clean and whitewash their houses and decorate with electric lights some days earlier to the festival.

How It Is Celebrated:-

People wear new clothes. In the evening, after the sunset men and women perform puja of the Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi and God of wisdom, Ganesh. Sweets are distributed. People light up their homes. Crackers are burst and the children as well as the youth enjoy them.

Reasons for Liking This Festival:- 

Diwali is celebrated as a symbol of victory of goodness over the badness. This is mainly celebrated by the Hindus but people of other religions also take part in this festival.

Conclusion (some evils associated with it):- 

The bursting of firecrackers increases the pollution all over the world. It causes variety of ailments like asthma, bronchitis, hypertension, etc. It also affects the lives of animals, birds and other living beings due to air and noise pollution.
