I have been deeply affected on three occasions in my life. The first time I was standing on top of a snowy peak in the Nilgiris. My first sighting of the ocean was another occasion that took me far deeper. But my first flight in the air was the most exciting experience of my life. I took A Journey by Air.
I was traveling from Chennai to Maldives by air. I boarded the plane in the morning. At first it was no better than sitting in a car or bus. The noise of the machine made me feel it was different. Soon the plan took off and rose higher and higher in the air. The blazing voice that captivated me from the ground was now mine. Things down there seemed too small.
When suddenly bad weather took hold of us, the plane took off very quickly in the air without any jerks or jerks. The plane started swinging from side to side and the pilot had some difficulty in controlling it. But I was feeling happy like a bird swinging in the air. Some passengers moved here and there and started feeling sick. Some slept on their seats but I sat very carefully. I was most happy to see the scenery of different places as we passed by.
After an hour of flight we were told that we were passing over the Indian Ocean which looked like a meadow in the air. It was a lovely sight. The sun was just setting. The ships below looked like toys that float in tubs of water. The blue sea on the right and left was simply mesmerizing.
We ate dinner in our seats and I was introduced to the crew members of the plane. The chief pilot commanding the aircraft was. Then there was a co-pilot, a sailor and three belonging to the plane. One of them was an engineer, the other a radio specialist and the third a radioman. There were also pursers and air hostesses to look after the passengers.
I don't know when I fell a sleep. My father woke me up. It seemed like a big dash through the air. I was very eager to get a glimpse of the mainland. But as we were approaching the landing zone, strong winds overtook us. The fog blinded our thoughts. I was deeply disappointed. Our plane finally landed at the airport, from where we headed for a hotel in the heart of downtown Chicago. The entire flight took us about five hours. It was actually a very interesting and exciting one.
